Artwork of 12 Artists Selected for Display in Downtown Rapid City

posted: June 12, 2017

Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC), along with Destination Rapid City (DRC) and the Mount Rushmore Road Group (MRRG), are very excited to announce that we have selected the work of twelve (12) artists to be displayed on traffic light utility boxes at nine (9) intersections in downtown Rapid City and along Mt. Rushmore Road.

Artists selected to be part of this project are:

Kevin Aker | Kelsey Dzintars | Paschal E. Karl | Amber Linneweber
Braelee Linneweber (Youth) | Evan Ludes | Maria Camila Ordonez (Youth)
Bryan Parker | Anna Robinson | Drake Rogers | Savanna Schara | Thomas Shearer

As part of an effort to beautify Rapid City, a Call to Artists invited artists to submit their original works of art to “wrap” unsightly utility boxes in high-performance and graffiti-resistant vinyl in prominent downtown locations. The response was overwhelming – the RCAC received over 500 submissions from 126 artists. Twelve (12) jurors made up of artists, community members, civic leaders and youth representatives made the artist selections.

Clean Slate Group based in Bozeman, MT, partnered with the RCAC, DRC and MRRG to print the artwork on a unique vinyl material and install them on traffic signal boxes. This is the second Call to Artists to wrap traffic signal boxes in Rapid City.

This project is made possible through a grant to Destination Rapid City from the John T. Vucurevich Foundation; sponsorships to the Mt. Rushmore Road Group; and a partnership between Destination Rapid City, Rapid City Arts Council, Mt. Rushmore Road Group and Clean Slate Group.
